to get there
By boat from Patras in approximately 9 hours. Connections are all year round. For further information contact the Patras Port Authority on : 610-341002, 341024. By boat from Igoumenitsa to Kerkyra and Leykimmi, connections every 2 hours. Igoumenitsa Port Authority: 6650-22235, 22240.
By bus from Athens and Patras with the National Bus Lines (KTEL). Tel: 210-5147310.
By airplane from Spata (El. Venizelos) International Airport with Olympic Airways. Flight takes about an hour and there are connections all year round. Tel: 210-3531000 (El. Venizelos International Airport), 210-9666666 and 210-936336 (Olympic Airways).
Local
Roads
Corfu has a good road network in most of its regions. Transportation within the city of Corfu and the island itself can be done by bus - KTEL for the more remote regions. However, most sights in and around Corfu town can be reached by walking which is always the best way to experience a city. Corfu has very good taxis. Last, you can usually rent a car, motorbike, moped and even bicycle in most towns and resorts.

Notes
It is preferable to stay close to Corfu town where are most of the attractions are. The island is big but not so big to make daily excursions too difficult if you want to get to know the island. At night it will be more difficult to move to and from the town due to traffic, no bus service. You can probably view all the suggested sights in this guide in about six days if you dont plan to spend any time getting a tan! This being Greece we do suggest you spend far more time than that - or miss out on some of them and spend some quality time on the beach. Dont forget your sunscreen.
